Lac Salagou is the largest lake in the Languedoc. The lake is man made, constructed in 1968, and is in a very picturesque setting, surrounded by red soil hills. Ideal for walking, cycling, lake swimming and watersports. Or just to relax and soak up the beautiful scenery

Attracting sailors and windsurfers, Lac Salagou also offers many mountain bike tracks, walks and of course the lake is the perfect place for a cooling swim.

Celles   Lac Salagou Lac Salagou scene

The village of Celles was evacuated when the lake was filled, but then the plans were changed, and the village was not flooded. Still empty, it makes a nice base from which to explore the lake. Even in the busier summer months you can find a quiet cove for sunbathing and swimming. There are a couple of eateries on the lake, or why not pack a picnic?
