Things to do in the Languedoc

Having such a pleasant climate the Languedoc is ideal for many outdoor activites, from a gentle walk along the Canal du Midi to off road mountain biking, from swimming in the Med to learning to kite surf.

Swimming - cool off in the Med, there is a vast choice of sandy beaches to choose from. If you prefer freshwater visit one of the many Lakes or Rivers in the region. Try Lac Salagou, or Carcassonne Plage, or the River Orb at Roquebrun  

Canoeing - there are a quite a few places to Canoe, Roquebrun on the River Orb is a lovely setting 

Walking - there is an extensive network of footpaths throughout the region, see our walking and cycling page

Horse riding - you will find many stables throughout the region. The Camargue is a good place for horse riding. France's famouse 'Cathar trail' runs through the region 

Climbing in the Languedoc. In our neigbouring Aude department at Caunes Minervois Notre Dame du Cros features 160 climbs. For harder climbs head to the Gorge de Pierre Lys with both traditional and bolted routes, or the bolted crag at Puilaurens. Near Perpignan are the limestone cliffs of Vingrau And slightly further afield are the Cevennes, Tarn Gorges the Pyrenees 

Cycling - there are miles of bike routes for all standards throughout the Languedoc. For gentle rides follow the Canal du Midi or country lanes through vineyards, and for mountain bikers look for the VTT routes.  see here 

Windsurfing and Kitesurfing - the combination of wind and sun make the Languedoc a great place to wind/kitesurf. See here

Fishing in the rivers, lakes and etangs. You need a permit which can be bought June-September. 

Skiing - the eastern Pyrenees has some great ski resorts such as Les Angles and Font Romeu not much more than an hours drive from Perpignan. see our ski page
