Follow the tow path in the other direction and you will reach the famous 'neuf ecluses' where you can watch the canal boats and barges navigate the 9 locks. During the summer months there is a cafe open, and from here you can take the little tourist train into Beziers. The walk to the 9 locks takes approximately 35 minutes. A little further on you will reach the aquaduct where the Canal crosses the River Orb, and then the Quai Port Neuf area where you can have a drink or meal and watch the canal boats and barges.
Beziers, just a 10 minute drive away, is a large cathedral town with some good shopping amongst the old narrow streets. See our Beziers page for further info
The nearest beach is Valras plage, a modern beach resort with many facilities including shops and restaurants. However if it's solitude you prefer there are miles of sandy beaches to choose from within a 30 minute drive.
Also within a half hours drive are the towns of St Chinian, Pezenas, Narbonne, the Canalside town of Capestang, and numerous vineyards offering tastings.
